Mongolia is like no other place you will ever go. It’s vast, it’s unspoiled, it’s utterly stunning. Traveling to Mongolia is like stepping back in time when the seasons dictated our movements and the land was what we had. Once out of the cities there is little technology and its a refreshing break from our hurried and busy lifestyles.

This trip begins in Ulaanbaatar and winds its way through the hills and steppe of central Mongolia and into the Gobi desert. Known for its incredible nature and history Mongolia does not disappoint. There are never ending National Parks to explore, rich traditions to uncover, ancient monuments to see and warm and interesting people to meet.

This trip will connect you with the nomadic communities and culture, taking you into local homes and immersing you in traditional cuisine and customs. There is no doubt you will leave Mongolia having felt immensely satisfied that you have traveled to one of the most incredible countries on earth.

Unless you are purchasing the airline insurance it is a good idea to wait until departure is confirmed to buy plane tickets. Please plan to arrive into Ulaanbaatar International airport (UBN) on Day 1. Our airport transfer will be confirmed once everyone has their flights.

T H E I T I N E R A R Y

D A Y O N E | ARRIVAL

Please arrive at Ulaanbaatar International Airport (ULB) today. You will be met at the airport by your guide and transferred to your hotel. We understand this has been a long flight so today will be slow in pace. After lunch we will have a stroll through the city and see the famed Museum of Natural History. This is a fantastic way to orient yourself with the history and culture of Mongolia before we set off into the wilderness. We will have an early dinner together before getting a good night's rest! D A Y T W O | KUTAISI NATIONAL PARK

Out of the city we go and into the great beauty of Mongolia. Our first stop will be the Khustai National Park where the famous wild Prjevalski horses roam free. Tonight will be our first introduction into staying in a ger. Run similar to a bed and breakfast, the family that runs the Boutique Ger are true nomads who still love off the land and tend to their flocks. This up and close and personal experience will introduce us to daily Mongolian life. (B,L,D)

D A Y T H R E E | KHARKORUM

Today we drive to the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire. After a visit to the museum we’ll head over to the Erdene Zuu Monastery, one of the first monasteries in Mongolia built in 1585. You’ll be able to wander the grounds and listen to the monks pray. (B,L,D)

Hot springs in Mongolia? Yes- It's true!! We’ll have lunch once we arrive here and then you have the rest of the day to enjoy the hot springs. (B,L,D)

Sleep | Altannutag Tourist Camp

D A Y F I V E | TUVKHUN MONASTERY

We’ll be able to stretch our legs with a light hike through a peaceful forest up the Tuvkhun Monastery. We will stay here for the night to fully enjoy the serenity of this place. (B,L,D)

D A Y S I X | ORKHON VALLEY

The Orkhon Valley is a vast and gorgeous steppe in Central Mongolia. This extensive grassland is mainly used for animals to pasture and is still used by many nomadic Mongolian today. You’ll have the option to horseback ride to the Ulaantsutgalan waterfall in the Orkhon River valley, considered one of the most beautiful natural sites in Mongolia. Tonight we will stay with a local nomadic family.  (B,L,D)

D A Y S E V E N | ONGI MONASTERY

Much of today will be a big stretch of travel as we attempt to reach the entry to the Gobi. We will stop for the night at the Ongi Monastery. (B,L,D)

D A Y E I G H T | FLAMING CLIFFS

The flaming cliffs are most famous for the discovery of the first dinosaur fossil eggs. These sandstone cliffs glow in the sunlight and have been home to many, many important finds by paleontologists. We’ll spend the day exploring this region and settle in with a nomadic family in the evening. (B,L,D)

D A Y N I N E | GOBI NATIONAL PARK

The singing dunes are almost 1,000 feet high and 7.5 miles long. If you are up for the challenge to climb these dunes you will be rewarded with a most extraordinary, panoramic view of the desert. (B,L,D)

D A Y T E N | GOBI DESERT LIFE

Today we will discover the Gobi nomadic way of life. Feel free to join in the daily chores if you want. There will also be an opportunity to ride two-humped camels across the sand. Camels have been essential to the Mongolians for thousands of years for transportation, milk and wool. (B,L,D)

D A Y E L E V E N | KHAVISGAIT PETROGLYPHS

We’ll drive through the Uujim valley to a famous archeological site in the Gobi. The Khavisgait petroglyphs are ancient rock paintings dating back to 8000 BC! You can take a small hike to look around and then continue our ride to our lodge to relax. (B,L,D)

D A Y T W E L V E | GURVAN SAIKHAN PARK

The Gurvan Saikhan Park is known as the “three beauties park” and is the largest national park in Mongolia. We’ll walk through the Yol Canyon and learn about the local flora and fauna. This place is also home to snow leopards! Maybe if we are very quiet we will see one. We will take in as much exploring as we can on our last day in the Gobi. (B,L,D)

D A Y T H I R T E E N | BACK TO ULANBAATAR

After arriving back in the capital you will have some much needed time to chill and relax at the hotel. You can also do some last minute shopping- think cashmere people!! and sightsee around the city if you would like. In the evening we will have our last dinner together as well as see a traditional Mongolian performance. (B,L,D)
