This 8 day journey will start and end in Reykjavik. In our private van we will wind our way north-west of this city to the Snaefelles peninsula and eventually crossing over into the west fjords. If seeing a more pristine, less-traveled part of Iceland is what you are wanting than this tour is for you!

In addition to seeing some jaw-dropping landscapes, we will connect will local goat and sheep farmers that will educate us on Icelandic farming and the products they produce. There is also ample time to stretch our legs and connect with nature through bike rides, horse-back riding, hiking, and kayaking. Other immersive activities include plant-dyeing workshop, cooking class, visit to the shark museum and of course luxurious soaks in many spas!

FULL ITINERAY:

DAY 1: Arrival to Reykjavik

Most flights arriving from the USA will arrive in the morning. Upon arrival you will be met at the airport by your guide and driver. After dropping our luggage at the hotel we will have an easy walking tour through the lovely city of Reykjavik, known for its colorful architecture and vibrant cultural scene. For dinner, there will be a cooking class through Crisscross where we will prepare a 3-course feast with fresh, local ingredients and enjoy together in a sit down meal. (D)

DAY 2: Farms and Food

We leave Reykjavik in the morning and travel through the picturesque Hvalfjordur and Borgarfjordur area, rich in valleys, lakes and rivers. We will be surrounded by rugged landscape, peppered with lava rocks and waterfalls. On our journey we will make frequent stops to enjoy the scenery and visit local farms. Experience local Icelandic food at a sheep farm, visit a plant dyeing studio and learn their techniques and the deep traditions behind wool in Iceland and stop by the famed Haafell goat farm where these spry little animals will steal your heart. DAY 3: Snaefelles Peninsula

Today we will circumnavigate the mysterious Snaefelles Peninsula! Stopping at small fishing villages along the way to take in the stunning natural sites on both the north and south coast. Dinner will be back at the hotel. (B,D)

DAY 4: Bike Tour & Ferry to the West Fjords

In the morning we will go on an easy bike tour through the lava field near Stykkisholmur. Making a stop by the shark museum in Bjarnarhofn, we will hear fascinating details about traditional fermented shark and yes- have the option to taste this Icelandic delicacy. In the afternoon will will board the ferry to the west fjords, crossing the Bay of Breidafjordur. Its approximately 45 minutes to our hotel where we will settle in for the night. DAY 5: Puffins & Waterfalls

To encounter puffins we will go to the majestic Latrabjarg bird cliffs, which is the most western point of Europe! These amazing cliffs are home to millions of sea birds and here you can get especially close to the beloved puffin. The drive will continue to the breath taking Dynjandi waterfall, which is the highest in the west fjords and often called The Jewel of the West Fjords. DAY 6: Isafjordour

After two long days of travel today is a more relaxed day. The town of Isafjordour is extremely walkable and the largest settlement on the peninsula with a population of 2,600 people. The town is speckled with wooden houses and museums that contain history from the 18th and 19th centuries. In the morning we will walk the “seafood trail” tour to discover the delectable seafood known in this area. There will also be optional activities such as a kayaking or hiking if you choose. (B,D)

DAY 7: Arctic foxes & horses!

A day of arctic foxes and horses!? What could be better!? On our drive along the fjords not only will we have a chance to spot some seals but we may even get a glimpse of the elusive arctic fox known to populate this area. We will arrive and check in to tour hotel in the afternoon and then go horseback riding on the famed Icelandic horses! Dinner will be at the hotel and feel free to soak in the outdoor jacuzzi to ease into a blissful night of sleep. (B,D)

DAY 8: Journey back to Reykjavik

As we make our way back to Reykjavik, we will stop at the Krauma Geothermal spa for a very relaxing experience. Additionally, depending on time, we will also stop at a viking or witchcraft museum and learn of the mystical history of this country. We will also see the 3,000 year old Grabrok crater by a short, easy hike. Ending our trip back in Reykjavik we will enjoy the last dinner together! (B,D)
